For CityU staff seeking application for admission, normal admission procedures will apply. Academic staff of the University are not allowed to pursue a research degree in their own Department/School under the supervision of colleagues from the same Department

For CityU nominees not selected by RGC for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, they will be considered for the award of “Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies PhD Fellowship” offered by CityU during the entire period of candidature.

PhD students are required to take and pass a qualifying examination within 10-24 months (full-time) or 20-48 months (part-time) after commencement of PhD studies. The qualifying examination aims to test students’ knowledge of major subject area of their research disciplines and assess their readiness to conduct research in their specific research discipline.

The theses from previous year are available in CityU Scholar. To be recommended for the award of an MPhil or PhD degree, a student must successfully complete the coursework requirements, satisfy the examiners in respect of the thesis submitted, participate in an oral examination on the thesis and area of study concerned, and in any written or practical examinations as required.
